Thank you. I’m sorry. 2017. This book was made in response to a trip to Japan. Based on the idiom ichi-go, ichi-e (“one time, one meeting”), I invite the reader to join me on an adventure which has already happened and can never be repeated in the same way again. The specificity of content (and thus meaning) is deliberately withheld—a parallel with the Japanese concept of ma, a consciousness of place through emptiness or non-form. The title is taken from the only two things I know how to say in Japanese: “Thank you,” and “I’m sorry.”
